News Around the Lehigh Valley December 2014

Land Development and General News pertaining to Real Estate.

1. Lower Macungie is doing a local Traffice study to substantiate whether 55+ communities cause less of a traffic burden for a municipality

Source: WFMZ

Reaction: I chose this story because I believe it could be precedent setting for the rest of the Lehigh Valley. Here are two quotes I found particularly interesting.

"Pandl said ITE data shows the amount of traffic generated at peak hour by an over-55 community is only about one-third the amount generated by a conventional subdivision." Source: WFMZ

"studying four age-restricted developments in the township meets ITE guidelines “to establish our local rate."

2.  B. Braun is halting its plan to build its new facility in Upper Saucon

Source: Lehigh Valley Business Journal

Reaction: I think its interesting to see how federal policy affects the Lehigh Valley. I recall both parties talking about getting rid of the Excise tax during the government shutdown. Pundits seemed to think it was an area of agreement. It probably makes sense to give incentives to create new medical devices as it can dramatically reduce health care costs.

3. Intel Buys the Avago Building off RT 22 for 650 Million

Reaction: This seems like a under reported piece of information, this a Fortune 500 and Dow Jones company bringing a lot of high tech jobs to the Lehigh Valley. I am excited.

4.  Tax Rate Increase Coming to the City of Bethlehem

Source: Mcall.com

Reaction: There has been some subsequent swawk that this rate increase will not be quite as high as the article states, It will be interesting to see where this goes.

5. Tax Rate Increase also coming to Northampton County

Source Mcall.com

Reaction: Poor timing for Bethlehem City residents.
